April Ross

April Ross is one of only a few female beach volleyball athletes to capture medals at many Olympics. In Tokyo during the next few days she will attempt to claim her third Olympic medal with fellow the first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. In addition, Ross is aiming to capture the first Olympic gold. At 39 this may be her last chance to achieve it. Her confidence is high nevertheless. Ross was quoted by NBC Boston as saying that If you put in your top, even if you perform well, you will win the gold. So I'm going to take some luck as well. Ross was born in 1982 and lived in Costa Mesa California with her siblings and parents, started participating in athletics at the Newport Harbor High School. She went on to compete in many sports in Newport Harbor High School. She competed in basketball and track in addition to her volleyball skills in the indoors as a pre-collegiate athlete. While she did well in indoor volleyball however, it was evident that her abilities were higher than the average. Through her high school years, she played middle blocker, outside hitter and setter at the tennis court, according to her college bio. In recognition of her work she was named in 1999 as the Gatorade International Player of the year in Circle of Champions. She also captured the 1999 Orange County Athlete of the year award for volleyball. Ross and Klineman might be working on a project in 2017, but Ross had already been a seasoned player at the beach before they joined forces. She has had the chance to win numerous tournaments, including one with an iconic volleyball player. From 2007 to 2013 she played by Jennifer Kessy, who is now her coach. Kessy as well as Ross proved to be an impressive force on the international arena, taking home the world championship in 2009 together. The duo won silver at London's Olympic Games. Misty Maytreanor's legendary team as well as Kerri Jennings won the gold. Ross Jennings was the replacement for May-Treanor as she announced her retirement. The pair won bronze in beach volleyball at the Rio Olympics in the year 2016. In high school and the several years prior to hitting the sand professionally, Ross played to the Trojans at USC while an collegiate. Ross's time in the Trojans was amazing. During her sophomore year she was devastated by a personal setback but managed to be a second All-American. Through her two final years in the Trojans program, she guided the team to win a national championship every time. The achievements of each individual have established her as a volleyball legend. She was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the best female college player. Ross had been an international studies student at USC. Margie Ross did not get to see Ross reach beach volleyball's highest level. As of 2001, when Ross was a sophomore studying at USC her mother passed away due to breast cancer. However, she continues to remember her deceased parent close and close. Margie is a beach lover and in daily life, inspires her.
